Love

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love you like my brother.
I love your stinking guts.
I love you like a fat kid loves cake.
I love you to the moon and back.
I love you like nobody's business.
I love you a bushel and a peck.
I love you more than you know.
I am madly in love with you.

Those are some of the ways I can think of to describe how I love someone. There are so many different ways to feel and experience love. While a lot of other singles get grumpy and bitter around Valentine's Day, I try to stay more positive. Am I crazy about seeing all of the lovey-dovey, sappy posts between boyfriends and girlfriends? No. But I realize that there is more to love than just sappy romance. So why get hung up on it?

Love comes in lots of different forms. I love my family. I love my best friends. I love my old, more distant friends. I love my roommates. I love my coworkers. I (might) love my mom's dog.

My love for my family feels like an inseparable connection and devotion. My love for my friends feels more like bubbles in my chest that often escape in the form of giggles. My love for my roommates, coworkers, and other acquaintances feels more like appreciation and respect.

So on Valentine's Day, why get upset because you are missing one type of love. Be grateful for and celebrate all of the other types of love you possess.
